Speech and Language Therapy – future plans

Calderdale Council funds part of the Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) Service that helps children and young people with speech, language and communication needs to reach their maximum communication potential. Other parts of the service are funded by health commissioners or by schools.
We are looking at the service that we will need from 2016/17 onwards, and thinking about agreeing a new contract in future. We are not planning to reduce the money we spend on this service, but we do want to get the most we can for the money.
The SALT service in Calderdale is based on national evidence of what works and uses a partnership model. SALT experts work with the family members, carers, teachers and other professionals that the child or young person sees every day, to build a whole package of support. This works better for them than having just a separate session with a SALT professional every now and then.
We would like to hear your view on how this model works for your family, and what is important to you about this service.
There are some questions over the page for you to think about, but if you just want to send us general comments, please do. The deadline for comments is 28th March 2016.
