Are you looking for a fulfilling role that will have a real impact on the lives of families with disabled children in Calderdale?

Unique Ways is a local Parent Carer led charity supporting families with disabled children, helping them to lead ordinary lives. Our goal is to make sure that the voices of Parent Carers and their families are heard and that Parent Carers receive the support they need to build their resilience.  We aim to provide:-

Right support, right time, right place.

We provide a broad range of services for our Parent Carer Members,  from free training courses, workshops and focus groups to a range of specialist support from our team of practitioners. We don’t restrict our services based on whether the child/young person has a formal diagnosis or not, and instead work with anyone who feels they need our help.

We are a ‘Disability Confident’ employer and positions are open to successful candidates with the ability to complete tasks with or without reasonable accommodations.  We are seeking a team member who will share our values and be passionate in the belief of empowering potentially excluded people.  In return, we offer family friendly policies.

We can be flexible with start/finish times as long as there is a commitment to a regular working pattern.  The position will have a base at our Halifax office (Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre), however, regular travel throughout the borough will be necessary.

The SEND Navigator role is a new role and is a time limited pilot project.

This Specialist Service will form part of the Unique Ways offer  to the charity’s Parent Carer Members.

We are very grateful to Calderdale Council for funding this new role (part time, term time).

The role is initially funded for 12 – 15 months as a pilot project to test the validity of this new service and to monitor what outcomes can be achieved for Calderdale children and young people via this specific service to improve families experience of the SEND system.

What the SEND Navigator can help with

The SEND Navigator’s role is to help families of children with Specialist Educational Needs and/or disabilities in Calderdale to:-

  • Access good quality relevant information.
  • Signpost to people/services who can help (both Unique Ways services and other providers).
  • Support Parent Carers to prepare for meetings and appointments.
  • Help Parent Carers understand help they can get.
  • Help Parent Carers build confidence in understanding and supporting their child’s needs.
  • Help with the Parent Carer section (Section A) of an assessment for an Education, Health and Care Plan.
  • Support Parent Carers to find a positive way to move forward.
  • Support and champion Calderdale’s change programme improvement work.

The role is directly line managed by the CEO of Unique Ways.

If you think you could make a difference to the lives of families with disabled children in Calderdale, and have the skills and experience we are seeking, we look forward to you joining our small friendly team.
