At Unique Ways, we provide a range of services to support parent carers and their families, both on a one-to-one basis, and in partnership with other organisations.
If you work with parent carers and families with disabled children and young people (up to the age of 25) in Calderdale, then we may be able to support you – and them.
How can we work with you?
There are a few different ways we can work together. Find out more below.
We provide a full range of services, including information, training, social events and much more. Click here to see our full range of services.
Our services are free for all members, so if you work with parent carers who you think could benefit from something that we do then you can complete the online referral form to help them sign up. Membership is free, but please note that referrals to the service need the consent of the parent carer. Click here to complete the online referral form.
Training for professionals
As well as training for parent carers, we also offer training and development for professionals working with families with disabled children and young people. Our current courses include:
- Creating Ripples – Understanding the Social Model of Disability
The social model of disability says that disability is caused by the way society is organised, rather than by a person’s impairment. It focuses on removing barriers that restrict choices for disabled people, rather than on medical diagnoses.
- Person-Centred Planning
The person-centred approach works on the basis that a disabled person has the best understanding of their own disability, needs and goals, and that they should be a key part of any decision-making and planning processes.
We can also create bespoke training for your staff – please contact us for more details.
