Dear Applicant,

Re:  Position – Family Voice Calderdale Project Co-ordinator

Thank you for your interest in working with Unique Ways.

Based in Halifax and covering the borough of Calderdale, West Yorkshire, Unique Ways is led by and works alongside families with disabled children to achieve the best possible outcomes for our Parent Carer Members.   We do this in two key ways:

  • By providing a service offer to our Parent Carer Members, all of our services are free to Members.
  • Working alongside statutory providers to improve the way in which support is offered to families with disabled/additional needs children and young people.

I would recommend you visit our website  to find out more about what we do.

We have developed a culture which is welcoming,  understanding, empathetic and a focus on quality service delivery which in turn has increased our membership significantly over recent years.

We hope that the information in this application pack and on our website ignites your passion for this role, as passion and commitment are things that run through every part of our charity and its culture.

We are rightly proud of the work that we do, but we are also aware that there is still much to do.  We are committed to continuous improvement of our service offer to our Members which in turn contributes towards improving outcomes for families with disabled children and young people in Calderdale.

We are seeking team players who show ambition, drive and enthusiasm in supporting our Members the best way possible.  Applicants will be hard-working and have commitment to living our core values and be able to demonstrate this on a daily basis through their behaviours.

Our core values

Our values have developed over the years to ensure we always put the best interests of disabled children/young people and our Parent Carer Members at the heart of everything we do.

These values underpin all of our services, and guide us as we work to provide the best possible support to our Members.

  • Our approach, and our services, are person-centred. Parent Carers and disabled people themselves are the experts in their own condition and needs, and we always recognise this.
  • Our staff will always be experienced and knowledgeable in supporting people with disabilities of all kinds. Both our staff and Unique Ways as a whole will always be welcoming, approachable, trustworthy, and independent.
  • Confidence is essential for disabled children and their Carers, and we will always focus on building the skills and resilience of Parent Carers, children and young people. Our services will be confidential, and of a high quality.
  • We are the link between families, support services and the wider community, and we’ll always help to empower families to ensure their voices are heard.

These values are, in turn, underpinned by the social model of disability. We don’t restrict our services based on a medical diagnosis or scientifically defined eligibility criteria. We exist to support any family that feels they need our support. We believe that strong, resilient parents are better placed to support their children and help them to achieve the best possible life outcomes.

If you feel you have the skills, experience and personal qualities we are seeking for this position, we look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely

Vikki Darby
