Coffee Morning – HL 2024-25

One of the biggest challenges that we find parent carers face is a lack of a personal support network and chances to socialise – particularly with people in the same position. With our monthly coffee mornings, we provide the opportunity for both!

Coffee mornings are held in our welcoming family room at Unique Ways on the Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre in Halifax on the first Tuesday of the month, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. They’re attended by our volunteers and staff, so feel free to pop in and get some help and guidance in an informal scenario. Bring along any questions, concerns or worries and we’ll be more than happy to hand you a brew, listen, and help.

But most importantly of all, it’s a great environment to meet other parent carers – people who have had similar experiences in caring for disabled children, and understand what you’re going through. Whether you talk about your kids, their schools, work, or even just what you’ve been watching on TV lately, it doesn’t matter – the important thing is coming down and meeting new people, and making new friends.

Please note, the aim of our  Peer Support Sessions, is exactly that, Peer Support – you as a Parent Carer should be the most important person in the room.   Our Coffee Mornings and Afternoon Teas were created to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space specifically designed for our Parent Carer Members to meet others with similar experiences to their own.

Please do try to arrange child-care to ensure you can come along with only you to think about if you can.  Thank you.

Peer Support is not designed for children; however, we do understand that, on occasion, childcare may not be possible and it may be necessary for you to bring your child with you, which is of course fine.

Peer Support sessions are provided during term time.

Our coffee mornings have been a lifeline for some of our members, particularly when they’ve first gotten involved with us. Take a look at some of our success stories about just how much it’s helped people build up confidence after attending – people who still come by each month to welcome and support newcomers.

It’s the perfect introduction to who we are and what we’re about, and we hope to see you there soon! There’s no need to book or pay – just show up between 10 and 11:30 on the first Tuesday of the month and join in. We also run afternoon tea sessions on the third Wednesday of the month if you can’t make it.

Please note that the date and time can occasionally change, particularly in the school holidays. You can check when the next coffee morning is going ahead on our events page, and if you have any other questions feel free to give us a call on 01422 343090 – or drop us an email at hi@unqiueways.org.uk.
