North West/Yorkshire & Humber Family Weekend
Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd April 2016
Windermere Manor Hotel, Windermere, Cumbria
Aim: For the first time we are inviting families from the North West & Yorkshire & Humber to join together for one big Family Weekend. We aim to bring families with children who are visually impaired together in a relaxed and informal setting. The weekend is designed to enable parents and family members to engage with other families to gain valuable information that may be useful for their child’s future. Also to give young people the chance to socialise, have fun, and develop peer group support systems and take part in activities that encourage social skills and teamwork.
The provisional program is:
Friday: for families to arrive after 4pm, unwind and take in the atmosphere, have an evening meal and a chance for a social get together including a quiz.
Saturday: The children will be undertaking supervised activities whilst parents get together for an informal information sharing session in the morning. Then in the afternoon families will have the chance to enjoy the hotel facilities or take in the local surroundings. The evening will be time for a social get together and disco.
Sunday: The group will take a leisurely walk in the beautiful Lake District countryside. Then a light lunch before guests depart.
Who can attend?
Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis, with priority being offered to those who have not previously attended this event. If places remain, they are offered to previous attendees (whilst also considering gender, age, level of impairment and availability of accommodation).
How Much?
The cost, which includes accommodation, meals and activities, will be:
£100 per adult (aged 15 and above)
£40 per young person aged 3-14 (Under 3s are free.)
It does not include travel to and from the venue.
