Caring for Carers

Local charity, Unique Ways who support families with disabled children or children who have additional needs, are organising a full programme of activities for parent carers during Carers Week (10th – 14th June).

The week kicks off with a ‘Bake your own Afternoon Tea’ at Heath Training Centre where Carers can bake their own buns and take home, or, sit and enjoy the fruits of their labour afterwards with the rest of the group.

Other activities on offer include free swimming at Todmorden Sports Centre during the course of the week and free use of their sauna, steam room and spa pool facilities.

North Bridge Leisure Centre are also on board with supporting Carers Week and offering free fitness suite inductions and free use of badmington, short-tennis and table tennis courts.

The week ends with a celebratory Carers Curry lunch on Friday 14th June, taking place at Unique Ways base on Hasnon Lane Enterprise Centre, Hanson Lane, Halifax HX1 5PG.

Shona Walsh, Chief Executive of Unique Ways said “It is important to stop and acknowledge the hard work and commitment of Parent Carers. We wanted to put on a variety of free activities for our members to enjoy – a little bit of me time in their hectic lives.  We hope there is something everyone can enjoy.  We are very grateful for the support we have had from our Partner, Calderdale Council Sports Service Department with this initiative.
